Renaissance Senior Living of Vero Beach resident James A. Scott III, known to friends and family as Jim, was born in 1935 in Wilmington, Delaware, the only child of Jim and Vergina. The Scott family lived just two blocks from Jim’s beloved grandmother, making family connection a constant through his early years. Those days in that close-knit Wilmington neighborhood left a lasting mark—shaping the way Jim values relationships even now.



Perhaps because he had no siblings, Jim has always held friendships close. He’s kept strong ties to friends from elementary and high school, Washington College fraternity brothers, and colleagues from his long, devoted career. Jim is the kind of friend who checks in, remembers birthdays, and keeps connections alive no matter the miles or the years.

After college, Jim served in the U.S. Army, both on active duty and in the Army Reserve. His working life was spent entirely in the life insurance industry, where he found purpose in helping others and guiding teams. He traveled all across the United States with New York Life, Jefferson Pilot, and John Hancock Companies, focusing on sales recruiting, agency development, and supervision. Over the years, Jim became a trusted mentor and steady hand, known for his honesty and professionalism.

Family is the center of Jim’s life. He and his wife, Judy, have been married for over forty years, building a home filled with love, laughter, and the company of their two cats, Tigger and Sugarfoot. His daughter, Judy, lives in Florida, while his son, Steven, passed away earlier this year after a long illness—a loss carried with quiet strength and deep love.

Golf has been Jim’s lifelong passion. He first picked up a club at age eleven and played until he was eighty-six, a remarkable seventy-five years on the fairways. Jim looks back proudly on the six holes in one he made over his golfing years—an achievement that speaks to both talent and dedication. To Jim, the golf course was more than a game; it was a place for camaraderie, challenge, and peace.

For more than twenty-five years, Jim also brought his love of sports to the football field, officiating high school games in Delaware and North Carolina. He relished the spirit of Friday nights and loved supporting young athletes, always with a sense of fairness and encouragement.

At home, Jim finds joy in old movies—especially westerns—stories of grit, loyalty, and adventure. Evenings with Judy and their cats are as much a part of his legacy as any professional milestone or sporting accomplishment.
